Preparation for the 2016 Ellington Gala is now well underway with a number of our traditional events returning and a number of new ones continuing for 2016.
These include the Great Ellington Bake Off, Classic Car Show and Scarecrow competition. Read on for details and how to take part although full details will be in the Gala Guide distributed in May and on the Ellington Village & Gala Info Facebook page.
- Ellington Top Gun Shoot, Date TBC
This year’s Clay Pigeon shoot will again be held at High Harthay (just behind Brampton Hut) The competition is open to all with Trophies for Men, Women, Youth, Beginners and Experts. Arrival from 9.00-9.30 onwards.
Saturday 4th June - Car Treasure Hunt
On Saturday 4th June we have the Car Treasure Hunt. The format will be similar to last year. Starting at staggered times from around 5pm onwards, teams will follow clues and questions on a trip around the area. There will be a short part on foot in the middle before everyone drives back the village and then makes their way to the Village Hall for Barbeque and Prize Giving.
There is a BBQ afterwards in the Village Hall with the Club bar open from 7pm with food and drinks at very reasonable prices. When everyone is back the winners will be announced and prizes awarded.

Friday 17th June until end of the Gala Weekend - Scarecrow competition
In the lead up to the Gala we will invite you to display your Scarecrow created to the theme of the Olympics. These will be judged on the Friday before the Gala with winners announced on the Saturday.
Friday 24th June –Boules Night
The evening is great fun for all the family with a junior competition held just prior to the adults’ one.
Junior Boules starts at 6pm – only £1 per player
Adult Boules registration by 7.30pm please. Play starts at 7.45pm
Saturday 25th June - Gala Day
The Gala this year will be opened at 2pm by our MP Sheilesh Vara. He will also judge the Childrens Fancy Dress on the Green.
As usual we will have a wide range of stalls including tombolas and Bouncy Castles for the children. Angie Rea will be running Pony Rides in Green Lane for smaller children. During the afternoon the usual BBQ and Bar will run.
The winners of the Great Ellington Bake Off and Scarecrow Competitions will also be announced during the afternoon.
Sam Malt with be bringing his display of local memorabilia. Weather and schedule permitting there will also be a fly past courtesy of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
On the grass between Green Lane & Parsons Close we will have a display of classic cars. Bikes are welcome but note the ground may be soft. See below if you would like to display your car.
Band will start at 8pm.
The Bar will of course be open on the Green with a range of drinks at the usual competitive prices and we will have an early evening visit from the Fish & Chip van.
Ellington Classic Car Show
Come and look at a range of classic cars parked on the grass between Green Lane & Parsons Close or enter your own car. Bikes are welcome but note the ground may be soft.
Please arrive between 1pm & 2pm on the Saturday. Cars to be moved by 5pm please before the evening entertainment starts.

2015 saw the first ever Great Ellington Bake Off, again we invite you to display your Baking Talents at the Gala on Saturday 25th June.
With a Birthday cake for the Queen.

One entry per category per person please and please complete one form for each person entering.
All entries must be on the table in the Trailer on the Green by 1.30pm latest on Gala day marked with your name, age (if under 16) and class and must be collected by 2.30pm (unless you would like them to be passed to the WI Teas stall to be sold J).
All entries will be judged by Sheilesh Vara MP before he opens the Gala with equal weight given to appearance and taste. The winners will be announced at 3.30pm.
Certificates awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

ELLINGTON GALA – SCARECROW COMPETITION
The Village Scarecrow competition. As you may know Spaldwick do something similar and we are also looking use it to promote the Gala in the local press. The theme this year is the 2016 Olympics!
All you need to do is create and decorate an olympics themed scarecrow and display in your front garden or outside your property where people can see it.
The winner will be announced at the Gala, have their Scarecrow displayed at the evening on the stage for all to see and will receive a prize.

The 2015 Gala AGM
The Gala AGM was held on Wednesday 15th October at 8pm in the Village Hall.
The main purpose of the meeting was to disburse the Gala profits, £1000 to each of the various village organisations, and also to discuss the 2016 Gala and organising committee.
It was well attended and we welcomed Chris Stening onto the committee. Anybody that has a view on the future of the Gala and what this includes, or would like to get involved in some way with next years event is welcome to contact any member of the committee.
